How to Test Your Vehicle's Battery

Your vehicle's battery is obviously one of the most important components of your vehicle. The car battery supplies power to the engine and all the electrical accessories in the vehicle. If the battery is not fully charged, the vehicle may not start or could stop running in the middle of traffic.

Testing the battery is a simple process, but one that requires a few items such as a voltmeter and protective gloves. First, turn off the ignition, then connect the positive voltmeter lead to the battery's positive terminal. Then, connect the negative lead to the negative terminal. If the voltage is 12.4, the battery is good, but if the reading is 12.2 or less, the battery is bad. Clean the battery terminals and posts and take the reading again.

If you believe that your vehicle's battery is bad, bring it in to Piazza Mazda of West Chester, and we will test the battery and replace it if needed.
